Recording the impact of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Sporting Voices is a project which looks at the impact of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and of sport in general through the eyes and voices of people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities.

The project is being delivered by North East Lincolnshire Council Library Service in partnership with the Care Trust Plus Group, Day Opportunities Learning Difficulties. It draws attention to the work that exists in North East Lincolnshire to involve people with disabilities in sport, and it highlights what a vital and often hidden role sport plays in their lives.

Over the course of the six months that the project is running, we are interviewing students taking part in a variety of sporting activities and discovering what exactly it means to them to be involved and to participate in sport. Interviews will also take place with tutors, facilitators, parents, volunteers and carers who all play an important role in helping the students to achieve their goals.

Students with learning difficulties from the Local History group and Roving Reporter Group will examine photographs from the Library Local History collection and examine how sport has changed over the years and how different sporting attire and equipment is now.

The results of the project will be produced into an audio-documentary together with photographs which will be uploaded to The People's Record website, giving all participants a chance for their voices to be heard.
